After several years of encouraging people to gather at the Bourbon Room, it has occurred to me that the place is so loud and so cramped that it really is a tough place to actually meet up with people to talk. Reminds me of being at a Nazareth concert in my teens when one of my friends leaned over to me and exclaimed, “these guys sound like a headache”. But hey, what teenage boy didn’t want to go to a place where the whole crowd yelled in unison, “now your messing with a…SOB”. We were so cool.
The Bourbon Room is kind of a fun place, but it does have that headache quality to it. I’ve talked to a number of people about trying to persuade our loyal Bourbon Room gang to move to another venue. If anyone has a good idea on where we could go, I’d love to hear it. But, I also just heard that the Vegas Show will only be at the Sands Convention Center for one year, in 2016. After that, the show is moving to the Las Vegas Convention Center. I’ll be curious to see which will be the “host hotels” once the show moves down the strip. Which also makes me wonder where the central gathering place will be for after show networking. So, maybe one more swing at the Bourbon Room will be in order just to say farewell. But, I think I could be talked out of it.
I spoke with a number of people about this too and poolside seems like a great idea to mostly everyone. The Venetian has a great outdoor bar on the 4th floor. Not sure how late it is open, but maybe we could work a deal and keep it open if they new they would be serving a crowd our size! It is all about the money in Vegas, right?!? I vote for a different, quieter location 🙂

A good idea. The beauty of the Bourbon room is the location and the fact that we pay nothing to congregate there. If we have to try to reserve a room then we might have to come up with some money. Nancy Rich and I spoke about looking into Margaritaville for this year and she did contact them but they wanted a guarantee of several thousand dollars in food/drink for us to reserve it. I think it is a good time to start looking into our options though.
What hotels are attached to the Las Vegas Convention Center?

You can look it up online. I did quickly and mostly saw Marriott and Hilton type properties. Not really casinos. I know there are other shows that are held there and I imagine the show coordinators looked into this before choosing this location. My initial concern is that a lot of attendees and exhibitors would want to stay in a casino/hotel rather than a chain and that suggests to me there would be a lot of cab rides involved getting to the convention center. Or, maybe there is a shuttle. I’m just speculating though so maybe it’s better to wait and see what the show coordinators have to say.
I agree.. too loud to converse, too hot this year… the challenge to LV Convention Ctr is it is a mile from the Strip.. Near Bourbon Room are a couple of bars that are more conducive to conversation… just not full on energy.. But this group has enough to energy to power a city… I am good finding a place a bit more tame… but Dudas will have to buy a golf shirt and his undersized “super shirt” will have to be retired.. sorry Eric !!!
It appears I have hit on a common thread. Three quick replies regarding the Bourbon Room. It’ll take some “advertising” to let people know where else to go but I think it might be worth the effort.
You’re up to it. I loan you the “super shirt”.
Eric
Our group of Fastener Peeps has outgrown the Bourbon Room. I wonder if we could find a bar by a pool, similar to where the welcome reception was held this year.
So, let’s convince you how great the poolside at TI was TS. We all had a great time but adding another bar (3) would be best. I would think TI would love to have us but not sure if the would add music.
I had one beverage and left the BR this year as I didn’t feel like a wanted another headache!
Just my nickels worth. Carry on Brother!
