Business picked up in June as the economy opened up. We now see cases spiking and regrettably hear talk of things shutting down again or slowing down. But, is that happening in the industrial sector or mostly with restaurant, entertainment, etc.?
Are you hearing of factories slowing down? I am thinking that the industrial sector will just be stricter and more serious about temperature taking, quarantining people, masks, etc. but not moving to shut things down.
What are you hearing? The only thing about July so far has been the number of people out on vacation. It is hard to determine if July will be like a “normal” July with lots of vacations or if things are still slow due to Covid. Hard to tell the difference in some ways. Also, I am noticing that a lot office personnel are still working remotely from home. While some companies have switched back there are still a lot at home. You can tell when you video conference and see kids and dogs in the background and not bookshelves and office people. Not such a big deal. Long term, will we allow for some of this to continue? Are some people more productive from home or less productive?
Hi TS, I am not sure what the new “normal”, or “abnormal” will be in the future. All of the fastener related trade shows and association meetings have been cancelled, until December 2020. The only fastener association event that I show as still being held is the NCFA “Screw Open” to be held on September 10th. The NEFDA cancelled their “Fall Fling Golf Tournament” this past week, along with STAFDA & IFE.
We at Rick Rudolph Associates, are following up on quotes, organizing Zoom and GoToMeeting events. We are continuing to stay in touch with our customers by phone, email and face to face (mask to mask) meetings, when allowed..
Many of of our customers are still working remotely. For those who are back at their offices, we do ask if is permissible to visit in person, before showing up at their door.
The majority of of our customers say that business is okay, Some are up. Some are down. None have said that business is horrible. This is what we have heard for the past 49 years. So, I guess some things are as they were, but not many. Stay well my friend!
Hello World, yes I feel like it is an introduction to the new way of doing business for us here at The Olander Companies. While we appreciate the continued support from our current customer and vendor base, we are finding new ways to communicate with them and finding new customers. Similar to an article I read on MDM we have new customers, not only due to “The Covid” as my son Lucas refers to it, but through our new website: olander.com and marketing.
We have hired additional sales team members due to growth and our push to increase customer satisfaction/retention. Our BDMs have learned new marketing techniques through HubSpot which increases our productivity.
As you stated T.S. many customers and vendor are taking vacations as usual this time of year. I just returned from a family vacation in Oregon and you can notice a different attitude toward “The Covid” compared to my hometown of San Jose, California. Oregonians that I met didn’t take the wearing of masks as a need, unless they were in a store. One of the private Golf Clubs I played at players/managers shook hands which was quite surprising to this guy…I know our friend Tom Buddenbohn was also in Oregon as he posted pics from Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and we exchanged emails recently…I know he experienced many of the same situations that I did and from the looks of his FB posts he enjoyed himself as well, just wish we could have tilted a pint together.
So, I suppose saying “Hello new world”, is on point.
