There is still time to nominate candidates for the Fastener Hall of Fame, but it’s getting close to the deadline. Each of the last few years, Emerald Expositions has inducted one individual into the Hall of Fame that was founded many years ago by Mike McGuire and Jim Bannister and has always been associated with the National Fastener Show. The nominees are evaluated by members of the Fastener Industry Coalition based upon the information submitted to them by “nominators”. What they see is what they evaluate!
On the last edition of Fully Threaded Radio Eric Dudas made a pitch for adding more than one inductee per year. The history of the HOF in online and, in fact, more than one candidate has been added in past years so it is a topic worth discussing. Additionally, as with any decision, there will always be some disagreement on who is “most worthy” so adding more than one might eliminate some of the hair splitting.
Let’s be candid – if a baseball Hall of Fame committee were comprised solely of former relief pitchers, Dennis Eckersley would have entered the hall before Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron. The positive thing about the Fastener Industry Coalition being involved is that it is comprised of association members from every regional and national association. It is a fairly good cross section of the industry. Still, choosing one person can be a difficult task. Perhaps more important is that there were several years where no one was added to the Hall of Fame, and there are many, many worthy candidates worth considering.
If you think there is someone noteworthy that should be considered you need to act quickly. Get your candidate nominated.
Maybe this next question would be better as a Twitter question (short and sweet) but — who do you think belongs in the Fastener Hall of Fame? If you want to answer on Twitter, find me at @TravelingSlsman.
